We
leave Denver at 7:30 a.m. seven days a week and will ride
in a van to the top of Mount Evans on the Highest Paved road
in the USA - an adventure in itself. You will start the Bike
Adventure above the clouds or about 3,000 feet above timberline
at 14,264 feet above sea level. From this point, you clearly
see the continental divide to the west and three major cities
to the east along the Rocky Mountain Front Range. You will
experience the thrill of riding a bike down the highest paved
road in the USA past timberline through forests, past lakes,
meadows, steep hillsides and along mountain streams. We will
have time to stop and take photos of wildlife such as mountain
sheep, goats, elk, deer, and hawks. If we are lucky, we may
see bald eagles working the thermals. You will be riding down
to the Historic City of Idaho Springs where millions were
made in gold and silver. You will ride about 28 miles down
Mount Evans arriving just in time for lunch. After lunch,
Bike and Trails will take you back to where you we picked
you up. At the top of Mount Evans, it can be 20° colder
than on the floor of the plains in Denver, so sweat pants
over your shorts and a jacket are recommended. This Adventure
takes about 5 1/2 to 6 hours from start to finish. You
must have a valid driver's license to participate in this
event.
